It’s been kind of a dreary and rainy weekend here in Southeast Michigan and I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing on my to-do list (which is mostly house chores). But this gave me an idea for something to post about today: motivation.
Now I did have the idea to write this post a few days ago and it’s taken me until now to actually write it – so maybe I’m not the best person to write this post, but whatever.
So what do I do when I’m struggling to find ideas or motivation to go out and make some pictures? Well to start I usually hit up pinterest and I have a few website bookmarked of people who’s pictures I like.
I don’t bother much with instagram these days – they are really trying to push video and I’ve found it more and more difficult to find quality images on there lately.
Two other things that I’ve found handy: I keep a list of photography contests that I want to submit photo’s to. Now in all honesty, I’ve not submitted anything yet (that’s a whole other discussion) – but I have found that keeping a list of the contests help focus my attention and keeps me thinking and looking for photo opportunities.
The other thing I’ve found very helpful is keeping a journal. When I have an idea (which much like Kato can strike at any time) I jot it down in my journal. Now about half the time when I review my notes I will end up crossing the idea out – either cause it was just rubbish to begin with or it’s just not appealing anymore. But over time those random ideas add up to real plans.
Of course sometimes I’m just tired so I take a nap and that does the trick. 🙂
