I can totally light up any location now!!! So I took another lighting workshop this weekend, or last week I guess – by the time I hit post on this. This was run by Josh Russel and Wescott lighting. Now I know it’s not a huge list, but it’s probably the best workshop I’ve taken so far. It was a mix of indoor and outdoor lighting and focused on how to construct an image, step by step, by building your lighting in layers.
What was particularly useful for me was the outdoor portraiture (which was most of the class). I do a lot (otherwise known as all) of my reenactment shoots outdoors so it was really handy to see how to utilize lighting and reflectors outdoors.
My one complaint was that I didn’t know I needed to bring a Wescott trigger (I thought they would be provided by either the store or Wescott like they have been for previous classes). Luckily we were able to share an extra one that was available – but I only used that indoors, so all the images you see below were taken with natural lighting (which I love to use). I really liked the instructors style – he would shoot a image, show you how to layer in lighting and then you got to play and ask questions. 4 models on site so there was plenty of opportunities to shoot and I was never standing around looking for something to do, and even when I was not shooting I got to chat with some amazing photographers that were attending the class – Keith and Donald. Always great to meet new people and these guy’s work is pretty great!
The indoor portion had some Cosplay, but I’m going to make that it’s own post – just because I’m still editing it. Hope you enjoy the images from the workshop!
