Well 2025 is almost over (good riddance) and 2026 is almost here. So it’s time to start working out a 2026 shot list!
So I’m part of a few camera clubs in the Detroit area and Eastside Camera Club publishes their monthly challenges a year in advance – so that gives me time to plan out a 2026 shot list.
I want to focus on portraits with these shots, so if you want to see yourself in one then… CLICK
January – Trains, Trams, Busses.
- So near the Shelby Twp municipal offices there’s an old steam engine. Could be a cool spot for a shoot.
- Bus stop grafitti
- Person waiting at the bus stop
- A shot of a bus parked at a stop taken from across the street
Initial of Last Name (So “R” in this case). I’m thinking a portrait focusing on one of these:
- Reading
- Red
- Rage
- Revenge
- Renaissance
- Reed (A self portrait)
- Rain
- Regret
- Romance
Macro
- Macro is not really my thing so I’m struggling to see how to make this a portrait
- Probably shoot some lego’s
“Throwback to years ago” (which I gather to mean something old).
- Thinking a portrait – left side is younger picture, right side is an current picture of the subject
- Same thing as above, but for a car
Music/Singing
- Street performer
- Posing with guitar
Head Stones
- Possibly a cemetery shoot?
- Headshot of a person photoshopped to show them turning to stone
- Light painting in a cemetery at night
Woods
- Portrait in a forest
- Lumber Yard / Home Depot Portrait
- Light painting on forest trail
Car Details
- Close up of somebody holding a set of keys
- Macro shots of tires, badge, steering wheel, stitching
Negative Space
- Side portrait
- Person walking at edge of frame
People at Work
- Vendors
- Construction workers
- Photographers – just pics of people taking photo’s at events.
Contrast
- High contrast Noir portraits
Windows
- Person looking in/out of window
- Windows logo on PC (lol)
- Abandoned building with a person or ghostly figure seen in a broken window
Color Quest (Pick a color and it should feature predominately in a picture)
- Already know what I’m doing for this – the scarepark photo’s I took in September used a lot of red lighting. So I’ll use one of those.
Blur
- I got this idea out of The Art of the SNL Portrait – a first curtain portrait with motion blur.
Mirror
- I shot some of this stuff recently with Gracyn so I’ll probably look to do something similar. Just portraits of people looking into mirrors
Grit
- This feels like a statement of character, so I need to think about how to show that
Upside down
- It would be cool to find somebody that can do a handstand
Mini/Mighty
- Probably a macro shot of some of my d&d mini’s attacking a dragon.
